Camp Leaders

Mike Melvin

Mike Melvin is a Math teacher & Auditorium Supervisor at North Montgomery.  He has been involved with at least one theatre production per year since 8th grade. Mr. Melvin has recently started acting on the Vanity theater stage and his favorites include: Joseph/Dreamcoat, Arsenic & Old Lace, Legally Blonde, & Big Fish. When he is not onstage or directing, he enjoys working with the technical aspects for the Vanity productions to help the director’s vision come to life onstage.

Offstage, Mr. Melvin loves to spend time with his wife, two kids, & his dog. Mr. Melvin says “Your student will love this theatre camp! Not only will they learn from many members of the community and Wabash, but they also will have fun as we bring The Lion King Jr to life”

Julie Simpkins

Julie Simpkins is the music teacher at Sugar Creek Elementary School. She likes to combine quality and precision with enjoyment and passion for the arts. Her theatre experiences include much in front of the curtain, but has worked as music director and as director as well. The first show to captivate her was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat when she was a young child in the kids’ chorus. Julie’s top three favorite productions she’s been in are Annie, Oklahoma!, and Annie Get Your Gun

Offstage, Julie’s biggest roles are wife, mom to four wonderful kids, and proud mother-in-law. When she’s not rehearsing or teaching, Julie can be found indulging in some chocolate, chai, or ice cream. (Wow – that’s a lot of sweet things!) Her life is filled with family, faith, and community. She serves as a youth leader at Rock Point Church, where she enjoys encouraging students there as well.

Julie is just grateful for any opportunity to create, connect, and share the magic of music and theater with others!
